Group Builds

The January 2020 club meeting will be a build night. It will also be the commencement of the first club group build, the theme being Anything Qantas.

The group builds have been developed based on feedback provided by club members in the survey that ran in 2018/19. Consistently through this survey people identified that they would like more opportunities to build and to see more modelling related workshops during our monthly club meetings, so there will be a shift towards this for 2020.

These group builds will run for a period of three month’s each and will have a Wednesday meeting allocated as a build night in either the first or second month of the group build.

The idea of these build nights will be to have an informal meeting with the idea to casually build and share ideas and tips amongst ourselves. This will hopefully be beneficial for those to share ideas with people on the night that are maybe put of by the idea of giving a more formal organised demonstration.

The first group theme of Anything Qantas is very specific and has been selected to help create an impressive display for the 100th Anniversary of Qantas display at ScaleACT 2020

The themes of future group builds will be more broad so it will hopefully capture most peoples interest, at a minimum it will allow people to build aircraft, vehicles, ships or figures.

The second theme of the year will commence in April, this theme will be anything from the Korean War and will tie in with a presentation from the lead Korean War curator from the Australian War Memorial. Part of the presentation will attempt to focus on some modelling related ideas to spur on some inspiration.

If you have any great ideas for the 3rd or 4th Group Build themes, please talk to Peter Davis who is managing the events.

We hope that these build nights will motivate people to build and gets something finished. If you do not wish to participate in the group build, feel free to bring what ever you would like to work on instead.

The group build will run for three months with judging for the first group build being at the April meeting. Toyworld have assisted with this group build by providing three gift vouchers. 1st $50, 2nd $30 and third $20. All eligible and completed models on the table will also receive three raffle tickets for that night.

To get your juices flowing, a list of Qantas operated aircraft is included below. Note: This is not an exhaustive list, it’s just what a few people have thrown together. If you can provide evidence of something being operated by Qantas that’s not on the list we will be very happy to see it be built.
